My key code is on the Kwikset box, why can't I order locks keyed alike
using this number? There
is no Key code on Kwikset packaging - see below.
In Home Centers the boxes have a pairing code
printed on the boxes. This means if you find two or more boxes with the same color
matching pairing code on them they will be keyed alike. The pairing code has nothing to do with the key code, an actual key needs to be gauged to obtain the code.
For security reasons and your personal safety, the real key code
needed is not identified on the Kwikset's packaging, key or the lockset. To get the code an actual working key needs to be gauged.

Why ordering locks to your key code is not a good idea?
Some Schlage and Emtek keys
have a key code stamped on them. Kwikset keys DO NOT have
stamped key codes. If you want to order locks to your stamped
key code the new locks may or may not work with you existing
keys. Keys and lock cylinder pins wear together so a new lock
keyed to a specific key code may not work with an older key
even though the key code is correct. By gauging a working key
we can make any necessary adjustments to new lock cylinders so
your new and old locks will work with your existing key. Locks
you request to be keyed like a key code stamped on your key
will not be guaranteed by Lockhouse to work. If you receive
your new lock(s) keyed to key code you have provided and it
will not operate with your existing working keys, additional
time and shipping expenses will be necessary to make it work.
Lockhouse highly recommends that you send a working key and if
it is possible to key your order like your key, we
will guarantee it will work.
